The verses we'll look at may not explicitly relate to the subject of sexual temptation, but they will (hopefully) help all of us to stand firm as we "go back to the basics." Passage: John 13:34-35* 34. A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. Questions 1. Jesus is giving last-minute instructions to His followers. What is His new commandment?   2. What serves as the model for the followers of Jesus as they seek to love?   3. What will be the result when the followers of Jesus love in the way He commands?   Practical help Nobody ever loved as powerfully or as sacrificially as Jesus. During His time on earth, He sacrificed His time to be with needy people. He sacrificed His reputation to be with seedy people. He sacrificed His life on behalf of greedy people. Never was there a time when He acted out of self-interest at the expense of another. He was always loving. In fact, love was the hallmark of His life. Small wonder, then, that He holds up love as the chief "Disciple of Jesus" identification badge. If we want others to know that we belong to Jesus, we will imitate His loving example and sacrifice our own interests on behalf of those of others (see Philippians 2 for more on this theme). The call to love, in addition to being a call to discipleship, is also a very clear call away from pornography. Loving the people portrayed in porn would involve praying for them — but not gazing at them. Loving the people in our worlds will involve acting on their behalf — not betraying their trust by venturing into the world of smut.
