Keyword: "see God"
Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

This is the sixth in a series of studies on the Beatitudes of the Sermon on the Mount, found in Matthew 5. Jesus spoke these words to a mixed group of disciples and nondisciples.

Passage: Matthew 5:8*

"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God."

Questions

1. What do you think of when you think of "purity" and "impurity"?

2. What promise does Jesus make to those who are "pure in heart"?

Practical help

Is there anything keeping you from purity? Taking Jesus’ words at face value, He is telling you and me that impurity is a block to "seeing God." Purity opens the window to the face of God.

This is not to say that you have to be pure or "pure enough" to enter into a saving relationship with God. Jesus lived a perfect life and died a perfect death precisely because none of us are pure! (By the way, if you have not yet entered into a saving relationship with Jesus, click here to read what the Bible says you must do to have forgiveness of sin and eternal life.)

However, because He Himself is pure, He places it high on the priority list of those who would see Him (i.e., know Him, walk with Him). We at eXXit are always looking for reasons to stop viewing porn. Try this on for size:

If you are struggling with the impure practice of viewing dirty pictures on the Web, recognize the stakes. They are impeding your ability to see, know and walk with God.
