Passage: 2 Corinthians 3:12, 17-18*

12. Having therefore such a hope, we use great boldness in our speech,

17. Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

18. But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.

Questions

1. As you anticipate your future with Christ, for what are you most hopeful?

2. What kind of liberty does the Spirit of God bring with Him?

Practical help

Addiction to porn is shackling. It binds whoever uses it. It narrows a world to the screen on a desk. It creates a mad obsession.

Life with Christ, though, is a life of liberation. That liberation is a gift of the Holy Spirit, who is the perpetual presence of God in our lives. (If you have never come to know Christ by faith, click here to find out how to establish a relationship with God.)

Where the sovereign Spirit dwells, there is liberty — and a specific kind of liberty. It is the freedom to take off the mask of pretending, to be genuine. That is the sense of verse 12 (above). "Boldness" speaks of a transparency where nothing is hidden and nothing is faked. There is nothing to be defensive about because we know that we are still works in progress — we haven't "arrived" and we don't "have it all together."

If porn is a current struggle with you, perhaps one of the reasons you haven't gone to a trusted friend with an honest confession is that you are afraid of what that person might think. Paul says to put that fear behind you. The Spirit of God is with you. There is no reason to fear. Jump into the world of Spirit freedom with a commitment to let someone in your world know you as you really are. And watch the Spirit take who you really are and transform you into someone who stands strong in the face of sexual temptation.
