Welcome
to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand
strong in the face of sexual temptation.
Passage:
Romans 13:11-14*
11. And do this,
understanding the present time. The hour has come for
you to wake up from your slumber, because our
salvation is nearer now than when we first
believed.
12. The night is nearly over;
the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds
of darkness and put on the armor of light.
13. Let us behave decently, as
in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in
sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension
and jealousy.
14. Rather, clothe yourselves
with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how
to gratify the desires of the sinful
nature.
Questions
1. Have you ever started
on a long drive with too little sleep? Did you start
to doze and almost drive off the road?
2. Does Web surfing require any
mental or spiritual preparedness?
Practical
help
It's interesting how a
common thing like driving an automobile can offer
vivid allusions to traveling one's life. If you've
been driving for some time (over 30 years in my case)
you can find yourself taking your skills for granted.
If you've not been driving long, your lack of
experience can leave skills untested. In either case,
the tendency is to be ill-prepared for safe driving.
The most frequent blunder is too little sleep before
too long a drive often with fatal
consequences.
Web surfing can be a lot like
driving. If you're not alert you can drive right off
the planned road and right into the ditch of smut. If
you're guard is down because of overconfidence in your
resolve, then that abrupt turn in the "super highway"
will catch you while you're dozing. If your rookie
surfing record has puffed you up and you've kicked
back for a little "cruise control" browsing, then that
ditch is waiting for you, too.
In verse 11 above, you and I are
given a wake-up call (literally). If you've trusted
Jesus Christ as your savior (click
here, if you're not
sure) then each day is one day closer to his coming to
take you home to heaven. The apostle Paul is calling
you to live each day with a vigilant expectation. That
means living each day alert and ready. That also means
surfing the Web the same way. Staying out of the ditch
means waking up, being alert, being ready.
