Passage:
Luke 4:22-26*
22. And all were speaking
well of Him, and wondering at the gracious words which
were falling from His lips; and they were saying, "Is
this not Joseph's son?"
23. And He said to them, "No
doubt you will quote this proverb to Me, 'Physician,
heal yourself! Whatever we heard was done at
Capernaum, do here in your home town as
well.'"
24. And He said, "Truly I say to
you, no prophet is welcome in his home
town.
25. "But I say to you in truth,
there were many widows in Israel in the days of
Elijah, when the sky was shut up for three years and
six months, when a great famine came over all the
land;
26. and yet Elijah was sent to
none of them, but only to Zarephath, in the land of
Sidon, to a woman who was a widow.
Questions
1. Why do you suppose
Jesus didn't even bother to perform miracles in his
home town?
2. What do you think you know
about Jesus' power to help you?
Practical
help
"Yeah, Yeah. I've heard
about Jesus. But I need something modern and relevant
to deal with my porn habit" the skeptic's
refrain.
Jesus' response to the skeptic
was the same as His Holy Father's many years before.
Don't waste time on hearts so full of assumed
knowledge that there's not a milliliter left for
faith.
Don't let what you think you
know about Jesus get in the way of an opportunity for
real change. Jesus expects one thing from you
your faith that He's the one who will help you. Turn
your skeptic's curse into faith's blessing. Trust
Jesus.
