Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

Passage: 2 Corinthians 12:9-10*

9. But [Christ] said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.

10. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Question

1. What does Paul mean that he is strong in weakness?

2. Can weakness help us beat pornography?

Practical help

Americans often struggle with this passage. Raised on the self-sufficiency that won the West, we wonder how weakness can accomplish anything.

In every sense of the very American phrase, the apostle Paul can relate. He enjoyed the power of answered prayer. At least until his "thorn in the flesh" tripped him up. No one knows the identity of the thorn -- some say it was a physical problem, others say a spiritual malady -- but all agree Paul prayed and was refused.

The lesson? Even weakness can glorify God.

So when we fail to resist pornographic temptations, we should follow Paul's example. Let's talk up our flops, giving glory to God for loving us anyway. Our honesty may also help other Christians come to grips with their own struggles with porn.

And, contrary to popular belief, that's a strong message.
