Passage: Philippians 1:8-11*
8. For God is my witness, how I long for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus.
9. And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment,
10. so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ;
11. having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
Questions
1. According to this passage, what was the Apostle Paul praying for?
2. In what ways can love grow (verse 9) and what is the result?
Practical help
There are many things we can do with our love, both good and bad, but what's the best thing we can do with it?
The short answer is to give it to God so He can enrich it with truth and righteousness.
Sounds a little odd, but when we give our love to God He doesn't just accept it, He gives it back to us. What He gives back, though, is much better than what we give Him.
This is great news for us porn strugglers! As we love God and seek to know Him, He transforms our love by real knowledge and discernment into a new value system. The more we get to know Him, the more able we are to approve the things that are excellent — those things which give glory and praise to God, AND the more able we are to reject the things that aren't — like porn.
As the Apostle Paul prayed, we here at eXXit also pray that your love may abound more and more in real knowledge and discernment as you give it to God. Want to know more about loving God, click here.
