Passage:
Romans 13:11-14*
11. And do this,
understanding the present time. The hour has come for
you to wake up from your slumber, because our
salvation is nearer now than when we first
believed.
12. The night is nearly over;
the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds
of darkness and put on the armor of light.
13. Let us behave decently, as
in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in
sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension
and jealousy.
14. Rather, clothe yourselves
with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how
to gratify the desires of the sinful
nature.
Question
Have you ever noticed a
connection between something you did in the morning
and the kind of day you had?
Practical
help
Have you ever experienced
the minor phenomena of thinking and acting differently
just because of what you decided to wear that day?
Maybe you put on a new or
recently cleaned business suit and after a quick check
in the mirror thought to yourself, "Wow, you can look
mighty professional when you want to." Maybe it was a
passing thought, but maybe it changed your attitude
about how to act that day.
In verse 14 of today's passage,
the apostle Paul is providing some insight on a good
way to start your day. Before you jump in the shower.
Before you grab that suit or pair of jeans. Before you
give a moment's thought to the day ahead. Cloth
yourself with Jesus Christ, and look into that
spiritual mirror. (If you're not sure he's in your
wardrobe, click
here.) Notice that
you're a redeemed child of God Almighty and made
perfect in his sight.
Let that sink in each and every
morning, and you'll soon find that you're not thinking
about how to gratify the desires of the sinful
nature.
