Passage: Hebrews 5:12-14*

12. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God's word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!

13. Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness.

14. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

Questions

1. How important is a proper diet to a competitive athlete?

2. Does God's word challenge you? Is it getting tougher to chew?

Practical help

There are a couple of ways you can nourish yourself on God's word. One way is to be content as a baby Christian and drink it like a cup of milk when you happen to thirst for it. In this mode, your nourishment may sustain you for short intervals, but when called upon for substantive reserve the cup runs empty quick.

Another way is to let those sips of milk spark hunger pangs for something more satisfying. Milk is for babies because they're not ready to chew on something more challenging to ingest. Solid food is something that still nourishes when the road gets long and hard.

If you're facing overwhelming temptations from those alluring porn sites, don't expect a diet of baby food to provide you what only a diet of solid food can — a fortified front.
