Passage: John 14:6*

Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me."

Questions

1. Do you have trouble telling the truth?

2. Are there some sayings of Jesus that you question?

3. Does the idea that Jesus personifies truth underscore the importance of believing even His most difficult sayings?

Practical help

This is the second of six studies on this well known verse. Today we are thinking about Jesus as Truth. Yesterday, we considered how knowing that Jesus is the Way helps us set the direction for our lives. The fact that Jesus is also the Truth can help us with moment-by-moment temptations along the way.

To some, even though they might acknowledge truth, it isn’t that important a factor in determining what they will decide to do. Pontius Pilate is an example of someone like this. In John 18:37-38, we have this interesting exchange between Pilate and Jesus.

37. Therefore Pilate said to Him, "So You are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice."

38. Pilate said to Him, "What is truth?" And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews and said to them, "I find no guilt in Him."*

Sadly, even though Pilate found the Son of God innocent, he had Him crucified. How about you? Are you willing to bend the truth to justify a porn habit or other vice? Pray to God, and ask for strength to stay pure. He promises to help, and that’s the truth.
