Passage: Proverbs 29:6*

An evil man is snared by his own sin, but a righteous one can sing and be glad

Question

 1. What is the principle underlying this proverb?

2. How can we apply the principle to pornography?

Practical help

With pornography out of the "First Amendment" sex shops and into the Internet and network TV, it's easy to start accepting it. We may think — with amazingly teenage thought patterns — "Porn is okay because everyone is watching it."

Then, like a lighting bolt out of the ancient world, Proverbs 29:6 strikes. For believers, it speaks of a worldview we supposedly share: that God's ways are really the best, that we "can sing and be glad." For nonbelievers, it states a fact of life: Your shortcomings will eventually trip you up.

With pornography, you're shackled if you do and free if you don't. The proverbial message may seem hard to accept, but ignoring reality will only make matters worse.
