Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand
strong in the face of sexual temptation.
Passage: John 14:1-2*
1. "Let not your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe
also in Me."
2. "In My Fathers house are many dwelling places; if it
were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you."
Questions
1. In the passage quoted above, Jesus is speaking to His disciples.
What is the message of these two verses to people who are troubled?
2. What kind of a place do you picture Jesus preparing for you in
Heaven? How will it be similar to your present dwelling? How might it differ?
Practical help
Heaven is the destination of the Christian. Jesus is preparing a
wonderful place for us there. Whatever Heaven will be, we know that it will be all that we
have ever hoped or dreamed of -- a place of love and holiness where worship energizes us
and satisfies us.
But Heaven is not now. We know that. Sometimes, though, our desire for the satisfaction
that only Heaven can provide leads us into temptation. We may be tempted to take
short-cuts to find satisfaction in what this world has to offer, rather than find
satisfaction now in Gods presence and rest in the hope of final and full
satisfaction later, in Heaven.
Involvement with pornography can become such a short-cut. It can become a mans (or a
womans) attempt to escape the inescapable frustrations and disappointments of this
life and provide for himself what only God can really provide. Porn gives only a momentary
and artificial relief while God promises full satisfaction.
Next time you are tempted by porn, take the long-view. Realize that clicking onto that
site wont really satisfy. It is a short-cut leading to nowhere. Remember that Jesus
is preparing a place for you in Heaven that will fully satisfy your longings and hungers
AND that relationship with Himself offers the only genuine way to deal with frustrations
and disappointments now.
