Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

Passage: Luke 11:13*

[Jesus speaking] "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?"

Questions

1. Are you and I capable of giving good gifts to those we love?

2. Why does Jesus, in contrast to the kind of gifts we give, mention the father’s giving of the Holy Spirit?

3. What makes the Holy Spirit the most important gift we could receive from God?

Practical help

Most earthly fathers, no matter how many mistakes they make, try at some point or another to treat their children well and even give them gifts of some kind. How much better our heavenly Father treats us, His children! The most significant gift He could ever give us is the Holy Spirit. He didn’t stop short, but gave us the very best.

The Holy Spirit is important in our lives because:

1. He comes into our lives the moment we believe in Jesus as Savior (Ephesians 1:13-14).

2. He leads us into all the truth (John 16:13).

3. The Spirit is the power of our new lives in Christ. He begins a lifelong process of change as we become more like Christ (Galatians 3:3; Philippians 1:6).

The Holy Spirit now abiding in you is your best defense and resource in response to the sexual temptations you wrestle with. God’s best and presence are in you and with you at all times. You are, after all, the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 3:16).
