Welcome
to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand
strong in the face of sexual temptation.
Passage:
Luke 10:38-42*
38. Now as they were
traveling along, He entered a certain village; and a
woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home.
39. And she had a sister called
Mary, who moreover was listening to the Lord's word,
seated at His feet.
40. But Martha was distracted
with all her preparations; and she came up to Him, and
said, "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left
me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help
me."
41. But the Lord answered and
said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and
bothered about so many things;
42. but only a few things are
necessary, really only one, for Mary has chosen the
good part, which shall not be taken away from her."
Questions
1. What was the difference
in focus of these two sisters?
2. What is the good
part that Jesus referred to?
Practical
help
Its so easy to lose
perspective in our busy lives even as we work
hard to serve the Lord in some way. Jesus praised Mary
for what she had chosen to do. It seems so obvious.
Her attention was focused on Jesus and to listening
attentively to His word.
The perspective that Mary
practiced is a key element in resisting the pull of
sexual temptation in our lives. She wanted to know
what Jesus had to say, and she wanted to know Him.
Time for serving Him would come later.
Take a few moments to open your
ears (and your heart) and listen to what Jesus has to
say to you today. A few minutes of sitting to hear
from Him will probably be enough to strengthen your
heart to face the days battles with all kinds of
lesser things including porn. Your attention
will be refocused on Jesus and your strength
renewed.
