Passage: John 1:1-5, 14*

1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2. He was with God in the beginning.

3. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

4. In him was life, and that life was the light of men.

5. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

14. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Questions

Practical help

Another light shines in the darkness, but in it is no life. That light is the light of the computer monitor, illuminated with shadowy images, poor reflections of what was in the beginning.

Jesus is the conduit of all creation -- it all was channeled through him. While web porn can be rightly seen as a fabrication or "creation" of fallen man, even it would not exist but for the Word, the author of life. When we look to the creation as our source of life rather than the creator, we are looking in the wrong direction, with our back turned to the light.

When Jesus became flesh, he became like us in every way (see Hebrews 2:17-18). He knows personally the truth of your temptation, yet he is also full of grace to forgive. Turn to the true light and extinguish the light of this world, which is really darkness.
