Looking for the Benefit--------------------------------- Date: 11/06/1999
Keywords: "benefit" "free" "permissible"
Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand
strong in the face of sexual temptation.
Passage: 1 Corinthians 6:12*
12. "Everything is permissible for me"-- but not
everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"-- but I will not be
mastered by anything.
Questions
1. If everything is permissible (verse 12a) then is viewing
pornography permissible?
2. If it's permissible, then what's the harm?
Practical help
If you have trusted the saving work of Jesus Christ then you're
alive in a freedom which is hard to comprehend. (If you're not sure you've been freed, click here.)
Yet in the midst of your freedom, you haven't been left mindless.
God expects you to think.
Are you in the habit of viewing pornography and don't really see the
harm? If so here's a challenge for you: seriously think about its effect on
you.
- Does viewing it arouse in you a desire to have sex with someone who's
not your spouse? Would that benefit you?
- Is the time you spend viewing it time you're taking away from other
relationships? Does that benefit you or the person(s) you're avoiding?
Be wise. Look for the benefit in all you're free to do. Then live
freely.
