Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

Passage: Matthew 6:7-8*

7. And in praying do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard for their many words.

8. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

Questions

1. How is your prayer life? Do you heap up empty phrases in your prayers?

2. Is it possible to pray to yourself and not to God? If so, how does that kind of prayer sound?

3. What is the purpose of prayer? Does your view square with verse 8 above?

Practical help

"Oh, God! I’m so sorry. It won’t happen again. Please forgive me for looking at porn."

How many times have you prayed a prayer like this one? If you continually revisit porn, is it due to God’s inability to answer prayer?

For the next few studies we are going to look at the most famous prayer in the Bible, The Lord’s Prayer. Don’t let the fact you likely know this one by heart stop you from benefiting from what God has in store for you.

And if you are struggling with temptation, take heart. God hears your prayers and knows what you need. If you have a little time, may I suggest you write out your answers to the three questions above.
