Passage:
1 John
1:8-10*
8. If we say that we have
no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is
not in us.
9. If we confess our sins, He is
faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to
cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10. If we say that we have not
sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in
us.
Questions
1. Verse 8 above describes
the way of self-deceit. After reading this verse,
would you say that any person lives totally separate
from sin?
2. Look at verse 10. According
to this verse, we can "make God a liar." That is, we
can contradict by our words what He has made clear in
His Word. What is the way we can make God out to be a
liar?
3. Sandwiched in between these
two verses about personal sin is the remedy for sin.
What does John say we must do if we have sinned and
what will God do in response?
Practical
Help
We have all heard,
"Confession is good for the soul." That saying is true
and biblical! That saying applies to those who
struggle against pornography. In addition to being
foolish, soul-destroying and a form of walking in
darkness (away from the God who is light), feeding on
a steady supply of pornography is sinful in the eyes
of God.
If you are caught in
pornography's web, there are many things that will no
doubt need to happen on the way to becoming free. But
the first step is to admit to God that what you
have been doing is wrong in His sight. Confess your
sin, and you will find fresh forgiveness and cleansing
from a God who loves to lavish His grace on honest
believers.
