Passage: Romans 12:9-10*

9. Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.

10. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.

Questions

1. Who is someone you think you're devoted to?

2. How can viewing pornography dishonor someone?

Practical help

Viewing pornography is one of those habits you can easily fall into when you've had a lapse in your "good" character traits — like love or honor for others. In verse 10 above, the Apostle Paul says to be devoted to one another in brotherly love and to honor one another above yourselves. Sounds like a noble goal, but how do you regain that behavior? Well, if you look at the following definitions for "devoted" and "honor," you can gain a strategy for moving back toward the goal.
Devote(d): To give or apply (one's time, attention, or self) entirely to a particular activity, pursuit, cause, or person.

Honor: To regard or treat with honor, esteem, or respect; to revere; to treat with deference and submission.

Try to identify exactly who you dishonor when you view pornography. It could be your spouse, brother, sister, mother, father, good friend, and certainly yourself. Put some names and faces with those you're dishonoring, and, suddenly, the dishonor is more tangible.

Now pick the name of a real recipient of your dishonor and write something like this on a piece of paper:

I will honor Mary Ann today.

Now tape that paper somewhere on your monitor. By doing this, you'll start to apply the "devoted" step. You'll be giving your attention to honoring that person.

Now go and surf with love and honor.
