Passage:
John 17:1-2,
15*
1. These things Jesus
spoke; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said,
"Father, the hour has come; glorify Thy Son, that the
Son may glorify Thee,
2. even as Thou gavest Him
authority over all mankind, that to all whom Thou has
given Him, He may give eternal life."
15. "I do not ask Thee to take
them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil
one."
Questions
1. In verse 1, what does
"glorify" mean? Even if we cannot grasp its full
meaning, it has the flavor of exalting someone in a
special way, doesn't it?
2. What did the transfer of
"authority" Jesus speaks about do for the individual
who believes in Him for salvation?
3. Whether it be Internet porn
or any other vice that entangles us, what is Jesus'
request on our behalf in verse 15?
Practical
Help
John Chapter 17 is a very
special chapter in the Bible. It is Jesus' prayer for
those who followed Him when He was alive as well as
for all the rest of us who have put our trust in Him
since His death and resurrection.
This prayer was prayed for you
behind the scenes before you were even aware of it.
This means God has you and your problems well in mind.
He also sees you as more than the sum of your problems
and weaknesses. You have a job to do, namely
reflecting His love to the world around you. If you
want to see God's heart for you then listen in as He
prays on your behalf in these verses.
There is a battle bigger than
you and I, and it has to do with Good and Evil
(capital "G" and capital "E"). In the power of Jesus,
claim the promise of verse 15 as you go about your day
in the world.
Pornography may surround us, but
we have protection and power to resist.
