Practical help

Even most Christians, when honest within themselves, would admit to some fear when thinking about death. And even when we can honestly say that we look forward to being in heaven, seeing Jesus, being with loved ones who have died before us, and having our pain and suffering removed, we feel a sense of sadness over leaving people we care about.

I’m not here to convince you that death is good, but this is where our faith in a loving God is tested to the max. No one but a Christian has even the possibility of looking at death and calling it "gain." This is Christian maturity and we all try to run from it, because on the surface it looks impossible to embrace its statements. How can we live to Christ? How can we call death gain?

Pornography’s allure is to distract us from pains and fears we live with in this world. It is not a true answer to our real problems, just a terrible detour. Our Lord calls us to Himself, and we often run to our computer screens and bury ourselves in titillating images to avoid facing who we really are – human beings with weaknesses we don’t want to admit and short life spans. Death is real and it robs us of loved ones and fills us with fear about the future. It seems to laugh at our attempts at living meaningful lives. Even the happiest life is filled with loss. One day, our time will be up and we will die.

Yes, these are depressing thoughts, but life and death as they really are form the dark backdrop that makes knowing Jesus the crown jewel of life. He has overcome death and invites us to share in a life that starts today and never ends. When living for you is Christ, death will loose it’s sting and life will be more satisfying than deviant sexual behavior. Pray and ask God to help you see truth as it really is.
