Practical help

Anger is a strong emotion that none of us like to be on the receiving end of. It may be hard to accept the notion that God gets angry about things that people do. We prefer to think of God as being kind and gentle and loving. This verse brings us back to a proper balance in reminding us that God’s reaction to man’s sin, ungodliness and deceit is to get angry. His desire of course is to remove the sin through forgiveness when a person places their faith in Jesus Christ. Grace is always close at hand for any individual.

I believe the porn industry is something that causes great anger (and sorrow) in the heart and mind of God. Consider the damage and destruction that porn use and addiction has caused:

  1. Feelings of defeat and loss of spiritual vitality in the lives of countless Christians addicted to porn.
  2. The loss to many marriages where the porn user turns to empty sexual fantasy in exchange for true intimacy and love.
  3. The financial stress associated with a porn habit.
  4. The emotional abuse and even violence that occurs in the homes of porn addicts.
  5. The demeaning impact on the lives of those who sell themselves as objects of lust and sexual fantasy.
  6. The sense of rejection and betrayal experienced by spouses of porn users.
  7. The decline of the world’s moral standards and value for other human beings created in God’s image.
  8. The broken and ineffective Christian testimony of those addicted to porn.

Because of God’s love for people, it’s easy to understand how, in His holiness, He would respond with great righteous anger to porn and all it does to hurt people. Maybe it’s time for you and me to consider the damage done to others and ourselves and respond with some anger of our own! Don’t give in to temptation today. Get angry instead!
