Passage: 2 Samuel 7:27*

"O LORD Almighty, God of Israel, you have revealed this to your servant, saying, 'I will build a house for you.' So your servant has found courage to offer you this prayer."

Questions

1. Why might David have prayed this after a victory?

2. What can we learn from it?

Practical help

It may seem odd to rely on courage after defeating an enemy, but David seems to depend on it in this passage. Why?

Consider this: How many times have we watched victories over Web porn turn to defeat because of an impulsive relapse? After we overcome porn, there's only one way to go: down.

That's why victory is a good occasion to summon courage. Whether in success or in failure, our fates depend on God's blessing. It takes a lot of courage to pray to the omnipotent King. But it's exactly what winners — and losers — need.
