Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand
strong in the face of sexual temptation.
Passage: Job 31:1-4*
1. "I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a
girl.
2. For what is man's lot from God above, his heritage from the
Almighty on high?
3. Is it not ruin for the wicked, disaster for those who do wrong?
4. Does he not see my ways and count my every step?"
Questions
1. What is a covenant?
2. When you lust, are your eyes really to blame?
3. Do your actions have consequences?
Practical help
Pornography is a visual sin. Those who are blind usually don't have
a lot of difficulty with it, although it is possible to achieve similar levels of
decadence on the phone or in other ways. That's not to say we should take literally Jesus'
instruction to gouge out our right eye if it causes us to sin. The eye is not really the
cause of the sin, only the conduit.
So, where does lust come from? From the same place we make covenants. If you agree in your
heart with God that pornography is something you want to eradicate from your life, then he
will work with you to accomplish it. Not overnight, maybe, but over time. Think of it as
an agreement with the same level of commitment that you agreed to pay off your mortgage,
or you agreed to work for your employer. There are consequences to reneging on your
covenant with God, just as there are consequences to not sending in your house payment or
staying in bed rather than going to work.
