Passage: Job 7:17-19*
17. "What is man that you make so much of him, that you give
him so much attention,
18. that you examine him every morning and test him every moment?
19. Will you never look away from me, or let me alone even for an
instant?
Questions
1. Do you ever wish God would just go away and leave you alone?
2. What is it that keeps you from enjoying God's attention at those
times?
Practical help
These are words of despair. If that's what you're feeling as you
struggle to keep going, be assured you're not the first to be there. Sometimes we get so
close, and then we snap defeat out of the jaws of victory. Then, we just want to crawl
away and hide.
The really, really annoying thing is, we just can't hide from God. Even in our darkest
hour, he's there peering over our shoulder. Imagine him now, or maybe just a few moments
ago, standing behind your chair at the computer, pulling on his beard, saying, "Hmm.
What's that picture there on your monitor? That looks like something I made awhile back.
Sure is pretty, but I don't think she's doing what I intended."
Think about this -- in that whole scene, God never degraded you or called you names. He is
loving you even in the middle of your sin. He cares so much about you that he'll never
turn his eyes away from you. So, fix your eyes on him and accept his embrace.
