Passage: 1 Corinthians 15:33*

Do not be misled: "Bad company corrupts good character."

Questions

1. How does Paul's axiom govern human relationships?

2. How might it apply to other types of relationships?

Practical help

Our reaction to the media often seems nothing short of a human relationship. We follow the lives of real and fictional characters with a fervency that puts the lie to the statement "it's only a movie/TV show/video." The ratings of "WWF Smackdown" are of a piece with the nationwide hand wringing over who shot J.R.

This odd blending of media with real life makes it all the more important to monitor the onscreen company we keep. For "bad company corrupts good character." How much bad company — particularly of the pornographic variety — do you allow in your home?

One last thought. You might feel tempted to say, "That stuff doesn't affect me. I can watch the porn, and it goes right out of my mind. End of story." We'll let Paul have the final word on that point of view: "Do not be misled."
