temptation.
Passage: Ephesians 4:26-27*
26. Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,
27. and do not give the devil an opportunity.
Questions
1. Is there a possibility of being angry without sin? According to these two verses, how can we off sinless anger?
2. To whom does sinful anger open the door? (v. 27)
Practical help
Jack Nicholson and Adam Sandler tapped into a universal problem with their movie "Anger Management." How do we manage our anger? Buried within each of us (either buried deep or pretty shallow) is the capacity for anger when life doesn’t turn out the way we want it to.
There are at least two improper ways to deal with anger. We can (1). rant and rave, a strategy that almost always results in damaged relationships and rarely resolves anything; or (2). stew and steam, a strategy that results in ulcers, and, according to Ephesians 4, something far worse.
When we hold on to anger, we open the door to the work of the enemy of our soul. Among the many things that this might mean, one thing is almost certainly in view. When we hold on to anger, stew in it, let it fester, we are more susceptible to falling for various temptations the devil might throw our way.
If you are trapped in the anger snare, you aren’t doing yourself any favors. Let go of it and escape the clutches of the one who hates you the most.
