What does Paul mean when he speaks of the "sting of death"?   Practical help I attended a funeral yesterday. It was like many funerals I have attended through the years. The deceased was eulogized by family and friends. The minister had fine things to say about the life the deceased had lived. There was much weeping because the deceased had been an exceptionally fine person. The funeral got me to thinking, though, as funerals usually do. (That is the point of funerals, by the way. They aren’t for the dead, but for the living.) I asked myself, again, "To what do I wish to give my life?" After all, some day my life will be over. Paul says that because of my sure hope of heaven when I die, because the sting of death — sin — has been removed, because I have received the victory of life over death through Jesus, I therefore should invest my life in serving Him. One day, when this life is over, neither you nor I will want to look back to see that our energies were given to viewing pornographic images on a phosphor screen in the wee hours of the night.
