Title: A ‘Good’
Prayer
Keywords: "goodness” “prayer"
Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help
you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.
eXXit advertises
itself as a Web site designed to help you "stand strong in the face of
sexual temptation." In Galatians 5:22-23, the apostle Paul lists nine
"fruit of the Spirit," fruit that the Holy Spirit produces in the life
of the believer. Each of these fruits — if produced — will greatly aid
a believer who seeks to "stand strong."
At eXXit, we believe
that:
The fruit of
the Spirit is produced in the life of a healthy Christian, just as
apples appear on a healthy apple tree.
If there is any love or
joy or peace in a Christian, it is ultimately the work of
God.
Christians can
cooperate with the Spirit's desire to produce His fruit in their
lives by yieldedness, faith, obedience and involvement in
ministry.
We hope you enjoy and
benefit from these meditations on Galatians 5! Send us any feedback.
We'd love to know what you think.
Passage: 2 Thessalonians 1:11*
To this end also we pray for you always
that our God may count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every
desire for goodness and the work of faith with
power;
Questions
1. Paul prays throughout many of his
letters for Christians. In the verse above, he prays three things.
What are they?
2. What desires for goodness fill your
heart?
Practical help
The battle to become a man (or woman)
marked by “goodness” (moral excellence) is a spiritual battle. Paul’s
tactic is the right one. He prays. He takes it for granted that the
believers to whom he is writing desire goodness of various kinds. And
he is confident that when his prayers energize the desires of their
redeemed hearts, God will effect change and growth in them.
Many men aspire to the specific “goodness” of
freedom from the trap of pornography. They want to be liberated. Is
that you? If so, it is God who has put that desire for wholesomeness
and goodness within you. Access His power by means of prayer, as Paul
did.
