Title: Mother Dearest ------------- Date: 12/06/1998

Key terms: "freedom" "slavery"

Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

Passage: Galatians 4:31*

So then, brethren, we are not children of a bondwoman, but of the free woman.

Questions

1. What different kinds of experiences would a child have who was born into a free family from that of a child born into a slave family?

2. In the verse in Galatians (above), Paul is contrasting the joys of freedom with the harsh realities of slavery. What are some of the harsh realities inherent to the institution of slavery?

3. How do you feel when you realize that you are free and not enslaved?

Practical Help

For the next several days on eXXit, we'll be looking at the concept of freedom and how that concept plays a role in a man's struggle against Internet pornography.

Freedom is a crucial issue in this struggle. Are we free to resist temptation or not? How many times do we try to stop a habit that is destructive, sinful, foolish — a habit like viewing on-line porn, for instance — only to fall again and again? We end up tempted to believe that we are doomed always to fail. We feel as if we have no power or choice or freedom but are enslaved to our lusts.

The first step on the road to freedom is taken when we accept the Bible's bald-faced statement that we are free. We are not slaves — to sin, to bad habits, to pornography. As Christians, we are free to live to the glory of God.
