Passage: Galatians 5:1* It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. Questions 1. What are some of the benefits of the cross of Jesus? Why not take a moment right now and list some of the things you gain by putting your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.   2. Galatians 5:1 gives one benefit that is often not foremost in our minds. What does Galatians 5:1 say is the reason behind Christ's work on our behalf?   3. If we who have placed our trust in Christ have been set free by Christ, why does Paul issue the warning at the end of our verse?   Practical Help Jesus died to set you and me free! When anyone comes to faith in Christ, he is set free to serve God, to worship and to obey. In fact, the Lord removes the chains of slavery the moment we are saved. Paul includes the warning at the end of Galatians 5:1 because it is possible that a Christian would become self-enslaved to things that do not glorify God — things like viewing Internet porn! If you are struggling with this particular kind of slavery, the Bible has good news for you: You can experience freedom. How to enter into that freedom? 1. Remember that central to Jesus' purpose in saving you was to grant you the experience of freedom. 2. Stand firm. Nobody said that this was going to be easy. When you sense yourself being pulled down the road to temptation, when the mouse looks irresistible, when the familiar Internet sites are beckoning, stand firm. There are brothers the world over and angels in Heaven and a Savior who loves you rooting for you to stand firm. 3. Recognize pornography for the "yoke of slavery" it is. There is nothing life-giving or energizing about it. After viewing it, don't you wish you hadn't? There are better, more God-honoring ways to use your time and your energy than looking lustfully at porn on the computer screen.
