strong in the face of sexual temptation.
Passage:
Hebrews
11:24-26*
24. By faith Moses, when
he had grown up, refused to be called the son of
Pharaoh's daughter;
25. choosing rather to endure
ill-treatment with the people of God, than to enjoy
the passing pleasures of sin;
26. considering the reproach of
Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for
he was looking to the reward.
Questions
1. Moses made a series of
choices while he was living in Egypt. What are the
choices the author of Hebrews 11 lists?
2. What factor formed the basis
for his choices (look at verse 26)?
Practical
help
The kinds of choices Moses
made point toward a helpful path of escape for any
porn struggler. We never get a hint that Moses
wouldnt have enjoyed the pleasures that living
in the court of Egypt would afford him. We arent
told that Moses considered the "lifestyles of the rich
and famous" which could have been his in Egypt
unappealing. He was simply looking for
something better, later, and that gave him the
strength to resist the temptations of Egypt.
The concept is called "delayed
gratification." The man or the woman who is drawn to
pornography is not required to say, "That is
disgusting" to porn. They dont think it is
disgusting or else they wouldnt be drawn
to it! But it is possible to be so drawn toward
something else, something more beautiful, something
with more lasting value, something that is holy, that
the temptation to view porn is less
compelling.
Christian, the "pleasures of
Egypt" embodied in the images on your computer screen
are nothing compared to the richness of a vibrant,
faithful walk with Jesus Christ. Like Moses, you can
"look to [that] reward" as your first line of
defense against the temptation to
pornography.
