Passage: Colossians 3:16*

Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

Questions

1. How would you rank your appreciation of art?

2. Has porn tainted your ability to indulge the senses?

Practical help

Glorious visual art — salve for the weary eyes; majestic music — rejuvenation for the heart; beautiful poetry and prose — a massage for the mind; it's too bad that the great complexities God designed into our senses can get so twisted.

Porn is not what God had in mind when He designed the human eye as a portal for the visual wonder of His creation. But sin takes its toll on all aspects of creation.

The good news of today's verse is that we haven't twisted all things sensual. God's word contains profoundly beautiful poetry, song and prose but that not the whole of it. The word of God has inspired countless works of glorious art. Not only are these artistic works pleasing to the senses, they also teach and admonish us as we indulge. They have a spiritually therapeutic effect — as God intended.
