Jesus is letting you know that the only way to break the of sin (past, present or future) is to be bound to him instead. He's saying that if you're not ready to be wholly identified with him, there isn't anything for you to learn from him. If you are ready to call him Lord, then pick up your cross of "identity in Christ" and follow him.
