Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

Passage: Matthew 23:13-14*

13. "But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you shut off the kingdom of heaven from people; for you do not enter in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.

14. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense you make long prayers; therefore you will receive greater condemnation.

Questions

1. What’s the danger of being "religious" without knowing God personally?

2. What quality is lacking in the people described in verse 14? Can this quality be replaced by an "effective prayer life"?

Practical help

When we go on the Internet and devour pornographic images, we have forgotten our humanity. We have forgotten the worth of men and women in God’s eyes. Instead, we have chosen to "enjoy" their deviancy and ignore God’s call for us to be like He is.

Think about the last time you viewed porn. Were you able to attend church without a moment of guilt or remorse? If so, you are a hypocrite. Long prayers in public will not wash you clean, by the way. Joining the choir or working in the food pantry won’t help, either.

Instead, you need to confess your sins to God. In addition, you need spiritual friends who will walk with you. When you start to be honest with others, you will discover you are no longer wearing the phony mask of the hypocrite. I know it’s hard, but it’s the only way to break free of this kind of addiction.
