1. And as He was going out
of the temple, one of His disciples *said to Him,
"Teacher, behold what wonderful stones and what
wonderful buildings!"
2. And Jesus said to him, "Do
you see these great buildings? Not one stone shall be
left upon another which will not be torn
down."
3. And as He was sitting on the
Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James
and John and Andrew were questioning Him
privately,
4. "Tell us, when will these
things be, and what [will be] the sign when
all these things are going to be
fulfilled?"
I wonder what Jesus is
going to say to His disciples? (To find out, you can
either read on in this chapter of the book of Mark and
tune in tomorrow). Lets pretend we have no idea
what Jesus will say. Do you think it matters? On the
one hand you could argue, Of course it matters
because its in the Bible. Thats
certainly true, but there is another way to see if it
truly matters to you and me and that is to ask the
question, "Will knowing the answer change my live in
any way?"
Are we people who just like our
ears tickled? Do we just like information for
information's sake? Perhaps the thinking is that if we
know what will happen, when we see it, we will have
time to get out of the way. I think a study of history
would show more cases where people who chose not to
act until the war started or the hurricane hit land
were swept up in the catastrophic event.
Pornography is a way, frankly,
to hide our heads in the sand. To view porn is to
decide that nothing going on around us is more
important than gratifying our pleasure needs. Do you
still have the power to see the signs of the times?
If you have the eyes of God and
take His words seriously, then you can see that what
was true about great buildings being torn down back
then is still true today. Furthermore, it is true, not
just about large man-made structures, but about us as
people as well. To be continued
