Passage: Philippians 2:3-8*
3. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in
humility consider others better than yourselves.
4. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also
to the interests of others.
5. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
6. Who, being in the very nature God, did not consider equality with
God something to be grasped,
7. but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and
became obedient to death even death on a cross!
Questions
1. How does pornography affect our relationships with others?
2. What do people do to protect their "rights" to
pornography?
3. What kind of relationships are we to have as Christians as
described in the passage from Philippians above?
Practical help
Humility is not weakness. Biblical humility is understanding our
relationship to God and then using this knowledge to temper our interactions with others.
For example, when I am not thinking about how God loves me or that I am created by God to
do good things, it is easy for the center of my thoughts on what will satisfy my own
appetites. But when I remember the example of how Jesus lived, then I see how God wants me
to treat others. As I accept that I am loved by God and rest in that fact, I then have the
capacity to put aside my lusts and appetites in order to genuinely love other people.
Don't fall for the idea that pornography has anything to do with living a fulfilling life.
Become a person who continually seeks what is best for others over his or her own drives
and ambitions.
