Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

Passage: Matthew 23:29-32*

29. "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous,

30. and say, ‘If we had been living in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partners with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’

31. "So you testify against yourselves, that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets.

32. "Fill up, then, the measure of the guilt of your fathers.

Questions

1. Why do you think hypocrites build monuments? Could it be that they are trying to cover up for other character flaws?

2. What other ways do hypocrites attempt to deflect attention from their weaknesses?

Practical help

Over the past six studies, we have looked at the subject of hypocrisy. It is an unpleasant topic. If at times you have been a little annoyed and felt like the writer should just "move on," then I would suggest that you are probably in hiding. No one likes to have a spotlight pointed on their weaknesses, but understand that God sees you just as you truly are.

Psalm 139 describes this beautifully.

1. Lord, You have searched me and known me.

2. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar.

3. You scrutinize my path and my lying down, and are intimately acquainted with all my ways.

4. Even before there is a word on my tongue, behold, O Lord, You know it all.

5. You have enclosed me behind and before, and laid Your hand upon me.

6. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is too high, I cannot attain to it.

7. Where can I go from You Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?

8. If I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.

9. If I take the wings of the dawn, if I dwell in the remotest part of the sea,

10. Even there Your hand will lead me, and your right hand will hold of me.

11. If I say, "Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, and the light around me will be night,"

12. Even the darkness is not dark to You, and the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to You.

If you are struggling to walk with God, this is a beautiful psalm that tells you He will never leave your side. But if you a faking a righteous life for the benefit of those around you while playing with porn, this psalm is a reminder that you will ultimately not get away with it.

Many who come to this Web site in search of help and encouragement are involved in Christian ministry. They might be leaders in churches or on the mission field. Recognize how important it is that you walk the talk. Hypocrisy destroys ministry. Get help now.

Perhaps you have been led into porn by someone else you considered a "good" person or spiritual guide. You, better than most, can appreciate how corrupting a hypocrite can be to someone else’s spiritual walk. Our prayers are with you, friend. God can heal you.
