Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

Passages: Matthew 2:1-2,11*

1. Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, magi from the East arrived in Jerusalem, saying,

2. "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the East, and have come to worship Him."

11. And they came into the house and saw the Child with Mary His mother; and they fell down and worshiped Him; and opening their treasures they presented to Him gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrh.

Questions

1. After Jesus was born in the manger, where did his family go?

2. Obviously the magi did not come bringing baby toys; why did they bring gold, frankincense and myrrh?

Practical help

Magi were wise men from the East. The Bible doesn't tell us how many there were, and they weren't necessarily kings. From out of another culture, people had enough information to become seekers of the Christ Child. They understood something about what this child was sent to do.

The times have changed. All of us possess things the greatest kings of that time didn't have (flush toilets and cars come to mind). But perhaps we have lost something of the magic of worship. Would we travel hundreds of miles on the back of an animal or on foot to deliver a gift of gold for nothing tangible in return?

Internet pornography offers instant results, but the process is empty and harmful. Would it not be better to begin a journey of seeking God in 2004 for the sole purpose of placing at His feet the very best we have to offer? May you and I join the ranks of truly wise men.
