mean?
2. How does it apply to Web
porn?
Practical
help
Tough psalms expand our
view of God. So says author Kathleen Norris in "The
Cloister Walk," an account of her experiences in a
Midwestern religious order. Even the most creative
interpretations founder on the stark message of Psalm
89:32: "I will punish their sin with the rod, their
iniquity with flogging." End of story?
Not quite. We can learn
something from religious orders. They often "pray" the
psalms out loud, making the tough ones sound even
harsher than seeing it on the printed page. But when
you speak (or sing) truths about God, the message
works its way into you. No longer can you say, "God
never punishes sin." You know he will. You said so
yourself.
God will punish sin. Sometimes
he gives us over to the natural consequences of our
actions. For Web porn, those could include a degraded
imagination and a broken marriage. And for
nonbelievers on Judgment Day the capital
letters are intentional and necessary the
consequences of every sin they committed will weigh
heavily on them. Let these tough truths expand your
view of God. And deepen your contempt for Web
porn.
