Even the most creative interpretations founder on the stark message of Psalm 89:32: "I will punish their sin with the rod, their iniquity with flogging." End of story? Not quite. We can learn something from religious orders. They often "pray" the psalms out loud, making the tough ones sound even harsher than seeing it on the printed page. But when you speak (or sing) truths about God, the message works its way into you. No longer can you say, "God never punishes sin." You know he will. You said so yourself. God will punish sin.
