Passage:
Psalm
86:11-13*
11. Teach me Thy way, O
Lord;
I will walk in Thy truth;
Unite my heart to fear Thy name.
12. I will give thanks to Thee,
O Lord my God, with all my heart,
And will glorify Thy name forever.
13. For Thy lovingkindness
toward me is great,
And Thou has delivered my soul from the depths of
Sheol.
Questions
1. In this prayer, what is
the request in verse 11?
2. What does the psalmist
promise to do with the truth He desires to
receive?
3. Is reverence (or fear) of God
an automatic thing in this world, or does it require a
determined change of attitude?
4. Verse 13 is a statement of
faith. What is the psalmist remembering about the way
God has acted in the past?
Practical
help
Sheol is a place of
darkness and death. To the Hebrew mind, it would be
the farthest place away from God that one could
imagine. We today talk about "the pits." What is
usually meant by "the pits" is a state of depression,
but it is also the feeling that God is far from us and
doesn't care.
The truth is just the opposite.
God sent his Son to die on a cross for us. In fact,
Jesus went further into "the pits" than we have in
order to save us. His lovingkindness is indeed great
toward us. Have a great day.
