Passage: John 1:9-10*

9. The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.

10. [Jesus] was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.

Questions

1. What do these verses mean?

2. Can they apply to your struggle against pornography?

Practical help

There is a simple message on this day for porn-strugglers with ears to hear. Christmas should remind us of the miracle of incarnation — that God became man as described in John 1:9-10.

But the miracle didn't stop there. Two verses later, John writes, "Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God." To receive Jesus means to embrace another incarnation. Except this time, Christ incarnates himself in us.

This personal incarnation should give us pause. Believers carry Christ everywhere we go, from home, to church, to work...to porn site. On this day — and every day — let's not drag Jesus to the altars of our lust. Rather, let's worship the One who was born to "give his life as a ransom for many" (Mark 10:45).
