Passage: Luke 2:68-79*

68. "Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come and has redeemed his people.

69. He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David

70. (as he said through his holy prophets of long ago),

71. salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us --

72. to show mercy to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant,

73. the oath he swore to our father Abraham:

74. to rescue us from the had of our enemies, and to enable us to serve him without fear

75. in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.

76. And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him,

77. to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins,

78. because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven

79. to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.

Questions

1. Are you visiting this Web site because you need to be rescued from an online porn habit?

2. Who can help you out of that pit?

3. Are you living in darkness?

4. Is God strong enough — and merciful enough — to forgive you?

Practical help

Now that you've read the Scripture passage above and the questions, reread the passage with the questions in mind.

These were the words of praise spoken by Zecharaiah after he went for months without speaking. The reason he was dumbstruck was that he doubted the news that had been brought to him by an angel, the news that he and his wife were to bring forth a son, the son that would pave the way for Jesus.

Can there be any doubt that this God is strong enough to deliver you from your sin?

Now that the gifts are all unwrapped, the trash (hopefully) put away, and the Christmas albums back on the shelf, maybe you can take some time to reflect on where you stand with the news of Jesus' birth, life, death, and return. You need to be rescued, and there is a rescuer who is able to do it.
