strong in the face of sexual temptation.
Passage:
Proverbs 28:13*
He who conceals his
transgressions will not prosper,
But he who confesses and forsakes them will find
compassion.
Questions
1. What is it that makes a
person hide his sin from others?
2. What will a person find as a
result of humble confession?
Practical
help
Something in each of us
strongly resists admitting we are wrong. It may be
even more difficult for us to admit that we are
struggling with something like Web porn. Hiding the
struggle from others only makes it worse. Our pride
and the need to protect our image before others can
keep us from knowing victory.
This verse should encourage us
because we read that compassion is extended toward
those who humbly confess their struggles with sin. The
Bible also tells us that just as God is opposed to the
proud, He also gives grace to the humble (James
4:6).
In practical terms this means
that revealing your struggle with porn is the first
step toward really leaving it behind. Gods grace
abounds for you in bringing it to light. On the other
hand, if you think you can just keep it private and
fight the problem on your own, youre just
kidding yourself.
Take action today by doing two
things. First, humble yourself before God, and confess
your sin and struggle with pornography to Him. He
wants to lead you to triumph! Second, find a trusted
friend that you can talk to. Humble yourself, and
speak honestly about the problem. Ask this person to
pray with you and help you stay accountable. This may
take some real courage on your part. Remember, you
will find compassion, and Gods grace will be
yours.
