Passage: 1 John 3:2-3*

2. Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we shall be. We know that, when He appears, we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him just as He is.

3. And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

Questions

1. What do you have to look forward to as a child of God?

2. According to these verses, what is it that motivates a person to be pure, just as Jesus is pure?

Practical help

The apostle John has encouraging news for you: If you have believed in Jesus, then you are a child of God! As a child of God you will one day see Jesus face to face and be transformed into His likeness. This is a great truth that can give us lots of hope as we battle personal temptations.

Do you ever feel hopeless in the battle against sexual sin in your own life? Do you wonder if you will ever experience a truly pure life without the shame you feel when you give in to porn? Be encouraged because your Father is working even now to change your life. He will be finished someday, but for now our hope and our focus need to remain in Jesus alone as we abide in Him moment by moment.

Let this hope of seeing Him face to face motivate you to take action today. Don’t yield to smut. Walk in new hope of the transforming work that God is carrying out in your life. Jesus will come soon to finish the job. Abide in Him today.
