Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

Passage: Philippians 2:5-11*

5. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:

6. Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,

7. but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

8. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death -- even death on a cross!

9. Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,

10. that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

11. and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Questions

1. Does it seem impossible to think that you can ever escape the grasp of your sinful addictions?

2. Is there something else inevitable according to V. 10 and 11?

3. What did Jesus do that made his Lordship inevitable?

4. What can you do to imitate Jesus, and thereby make your position with him inevitable?

Practical help

As you read this, you may be already a Christian, having confessed the name of Jesus as Lord of your life. Or, you may be an interested observer or curious seeker of truth, trying to learn more about who Jesus is and about why life doesn't always work right. In either case, if you only take one thing from today's study, take with you the knowledge that you will someday know in your own heart without a shred of doubt that Jesus is who he said he is, and that you will bow the knee to him. Our prayer for you is that that day will be soon, certainly before you see him face to face.

If you are caught up in sin and addictions like pornography, there is one solution offered in this passage, whether you have already confessed his name or not. The solution is the road of death. There are no easy answers (I'm sorry to say). Whatever you consider of value in this life, whether it be sexual fulfillment, financial reward, family and friends, toys and games, you have to be ready to throw it all away for the one gem of value that is Jesus. Whatever you're holding onto so tightly, take a good hard look at it and see if it stacks up in measure against the Son of God. When you finally let go of it (whether today or at the final day) it will feel like you died. But don't despair -- it will feel like you died and went to heaven! And the reward, like Jesus' reward, will be far richer than that which was cast aside.

This passage gives us a glimpse of our future. The clock is ticking toward the year 2000. We all assume that it will keep ticking past midnight December 31, but in reality we may have a far bigger Y2K problem than anyone anticipated. Who knows when that final hour will pass? Only God. But, as part of your prudent Y2K readiness plan, consider making some programming changes in your heart. For the next three days as we close out this millenium, our 3-minute studies will be focused on prayer, repentance and confession, as a fitting recipe to being ready for whatever comes.
