Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

Passage: 1 John 1:8-9*

8. If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

9. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Questions

1. How is self-deceit defined in these verses?

2. What does God offer to the porn struggler here?

Practical help

A prolonged struggle with any sin is extremely discouraging. After falling back into the same muck of sin countless times some people cope with defeat by simply denying the problem exists! Of course that’s a lie and the essence of self-deceit.

God has a better way to deal with our struggles with sin. It’s called forgiveness, and it’s ours in full because of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross.

Confession of our sins puts us in agreement with God about the truth of how we are living. It can also be the first step back to having some hope of change and freedom from habitual sin. Web porn fits into this category.

Face the truth today about your porn habit. Stop living in denial, and agree with God. Don’t even entertain doubtful thoughts about His acceptance of you or forgiveness. It’s a done deal. Get on with life, and trust the Lord to make the changes in you and fill the needs you have — the ones you’re trying to fill through smut.
