Passage: Revelation 22:17*

The Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.

Questions

1. Who makes up the intended audience for these words?

2. What do “thirsty” and “water” mean in this passage?

3. How can this invitation apply to those of us who struggle with pornography?

Practical help

If “man does not live on bread alone,” neither do we merely need H2O.

Scripture makes the startling claim that material things — like food, water and the like — do not provide the sum total of life. In fact, it suggests that human beings have supernatural needs in addition to natural ones.

What does this have to do with pornography? Everything.

Pornography promises to meet spiritual needs — including deep connection with others and personal significance — and fails miserably. Proof: consider how spiritually satisfied you feel after viewing porn.

Instead of trying to quench your deepest thirst with the “water” of pornography, get encouragement from the One who can meet your spiritual needs with spiritual sustenance. He invites you to come on in. The water’s fine.
