Practical suggestions to help you right now

Free At Last
With pornography out of the "First Amendment" sex shops and into the Internet and network TV, it's easy to start accepting it. We may think -- with amazingly teenage thought patterns -- "Porn is okay because everyone is watching it." Then, like a lighting bolt out of the ancient world, Proverbs 29:6 strikes. For believers, it speaks of a worldview we supposedly share: that God's ways are really the best, that we "can sing and be glad." For nonbelievers, it states a fact of life: that your shortcomings will eventually trip you up. With pornography, you're damned if you do and free if you don't. The proverbial message may seem hard to accept, but ignoring reality will only make matters worse.

Run!
How to flee Web smut? The answer doesn’t have to be complicated, as the above verse demonstrates. Just run like the wind when you’re at temptation’s door. True, your fascination with porn may stem from other personal issues. Work them out with a wise friend or counselor. In the meantime, hit the “back” button, pull the plug, run.

Keep Your Eye on the Ball
While resisting smut, you can lose your focus easily. Like by recalling your weaknesses and failures. This passage says to keep your eye on the ball. “Concentrate on understanding” instead of stewing in shame. “Cry out for insight” instead of wailing about failing. Instead, focus on getting (verse 4) what God is giving (verse 6).

God Can Get You Off the Hook
Fishermen spend a lot of time making lures that look like free meals to trout. The more enticing the lure, the better the chances for a bite.
----We have an advantage over fish. God alerts us when something — like Web porn — is trying to hook us. Through grace, he even helps us pull the hook out if we bite it anyway.
----If you've been hooked by pornography, turn to God. He'll get you off the hook.

About Face
You were made for something far greater than an image on a computer screen. So the only way to find fulfillment is to shine for God, and change the world around you with His light. Start by walking away from the dark into the light! And as you do, ask a Christian brother to come with you.

Remember Who You Are!
The next time the world offers you its pornographic "delights," remember who you are — a righteous child of God. He has bought you to serve him, so don’t betray yourself for such paltry pleasures.

The Pit of Porn
Internet pornography is like a trap to bring you down. When you find yourself in the pit, your help can only come from one who is above you. Exalt God by acknowledging His goodness. He is in a position to rescue you. Seek others who know Him so they can come along side you in your time of need.

Control Freak
One of the worst things we can say about someone is that they are a "control freak." We must relinquish control to the Holy Spirit and say to God, "I will do what You want me to do. Your Word will be the controlling influence of my life. I will be filled with the Holy Spirit, not pornography." To live this way brings joy, not only for you but for those around you as well.

Reject What Robs You of Strength
How many of us desire more self-control? Most everyone would like to improve in this area. One of the ways we increase self-control is by rejecting the things in life which rob us of our self-control. Sexual immorality, in all its forms, such as web porn, is one of those negative influences. Ask God to help you say no to Internet pornography.

Find Your Life
When tempted to view pornography on the web, remember that the urge is not coming from God (He doesn't tempt anyone). The temptation is actually a twisting of a legitimate desire for sex that God placed in you. You can be thankful to God for your sex drive, while recognizing that pornography turns love into lust, something that God never intended.

Don't Let Satan Twist Your Desires
Clearly, we do not die physically every time we sin. However, there is a death of sorts every time we answer the bell and give in to lust. There is a personal death, a dying of the kind of person we want to be and that God wants us to be. God wants us to live. Life is found in saying No to the inappropriate desire for what God has forbidden (like Internet porn) and turning to Him in trusting reliance.
